Each studio session is an opportunity to explore, learn, and create. Go on a studio session to take a digital detox and reconnect with the physical world. Discover a new destination and create real local connections. Spend time inside a master artist’s studio making something with your hands.
Learn a new creative skill. You can use a studio session to reconnect with creativity, have an authentic travel experience, hone a passion, get fresh inspiration, and so much more.
Studio Session’s are for anyone who travels to learn, grow, and get inspired. Most importantly, you don’t have to be an artist to do a studio session. Each studio session is tailored to your skill level, so you don’t need any prior experience. All you need is an open mind and a willingness to learn.
Most times studio sessions are paid for. The price for each studio session includes:
- An artist fee for the artist’s time and lessons
- Exclusive access to the artist’s studio space
- Use of the artist’s tools, equipment, materials, and supplies
- Your own personal artwork to bring home
- A fee that enables us to host this platform and make sure everything is running.
The price of each studio session excludes the following unless specified:
- Transport to and from the destination
- Accommodation, and food.
- Expenses of a personal nature
Most artists speak their native language, and/or another language.
However, if you or the artist don’t speak the same language, don’t worry. Art is visual, so you can have a meaningful learning experience no matter what. If you’re really worried, there are plenty of resources you can use, particularly Google Translate.
Just remember, each studio session is an adventure to learn and explore, so all you truly need is an open mind.
Each studio session artist is a master in their artform or craft. This means they’ve spent their lives practicing to become an expert, and this is their primary livelihood.
Many of our artists are award-winning, widely recognized, and well known in their local communities.
They’re also interested in opening their doors to travelers and sharing their stories and craft.
While we provide a number of available dates for each artist, there are also plenty of opportunities to do a studio session during other times.
We’re always happy to accommodate your schedule as much as we can. Just let us know when you want to do a studio session by sending a booking request on the artist page and mentioning your travel dates. Then we’ll do our best to make it work.
We’re always working on adding new artists! You can stay up to date with new artist announcements by following us on Instagram or signing up for our email list.
You can also contact us about doing a studio session in a country or art form not listed on the site. We will do our best to arrange a special studio just for you.
- For a full refund, cancel within 7 days of purchase.
- You can postpone with no charge at least 30 days before the start of your studio session.
- Unfortunately if you cancel within 30 days of your studio session we are unable to provide a refund. We have this policy to respect the time and resources artists invest in preparing for your arrival.
You are subject to a refund, at Collectors of African Art's discretion, if there’s a safety or health hazard that would adversely affect your participation in the studio session. The amount of any refund will depend on the nature of the issue.

Whether or not you need a visa will depend on your home country and the country you're visiting. You should do some research or inquire about a visa with your embassy. We also highly recommend all travelers purchase their own travel insurance before their trip.
After your studio session booking is confirmed, you will receive an email with all the information you’ll need to prepare for your studio session, including travel and accommodation suggestions, transportation options, arriving at the artist’s studio, and more.
At this time, you will also have the opportunity to communicate any specific projects or overarching goals you want to work on during your studio session. Because you are responsible for your own transportation to your studio session, you will need to book flights and accommodations and make other travel plans as necessary.
A week before your studio session, then again the day before your arrival, we’ll send an email reminding you about any pertinent information for your arrival. Then once you arrive, you can begin your one-of-a-kind studio session experience.

We are taking every possible precaution to create a safe space for our guests and artists to come together. To ensure your health and well-being, we’re implementing the following safety measures:
Private Experience: Each studio session is a private experience and will be limited to you and/or a group of 5 people max, plus the artist.
Covid-19 Screening: Screening is required for both artist and participants prior to experience.
Masks: All artists and participants must wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
Sanitizing: Every artist will provide access to sink and soap for regular hand washing.
Studio Cleaning: Tools and work areas will be sanitized at the beginning and end of each work period, and shared tools will be sanitized throughout the work period.
Ventilation: Spaces will be ventilated when possible (based on specific space and weather).
Last-Minute Rescheduling: If you are showing symptoms, or if you have had close, sustained contact with an individual confirmed or suspected to be infected with Covid-19 within the last 14 days, you should not attend. We will reschedule to a later date at no extra cost.
Health Restrictions: We are closely following health updates. If a session has to be cancelled due to updated travel restrictions in regards to Covid-19, we will assess whether it is best to reschedule or cancel the session. In the event of rescheduling, you will be offered a chance to move your booking to the new date or receive a full refund. If a session is cancelled, you will receive a full refund.
